The trading post of Glesvær is first mentioned in 1664. At that time it was owned by the Bergen merchant Hendrich Wessel, a relative of the naval hero Petter Wessel Tordenskjold. As well as holding exclusive trading rights, the owner of the trading post was the largest landowner in Sund, and the district's fishermen were obliged to deliver their catch here. The area is very child-friendly, with several schools and nurseries a short distance away. These include Spildepollen skole, a primary school for years 1 to 7 completed in 2019, as well as Skogsvåg nursery and Spildepollen Kystbarnehage, which opened in 2021, both close by. For those interested in organised sport, Glesnes youth and sports club offers activities for children and adults alike. The club has around 270 members and runs both a youth centre and a water-sports centre, as well as three sports groups for children and young people from years 1 to 8. There is a wide range of activities around the facilities at the school, with several teams and clubs involved. Bunnpris Spildepollen is the nearest shop. For a broader range of services and shops, Sund senter is around a 10-minute drive and Sartor about 25 minutes. Outside rush hour, Bergen city centre can be reached in around 40 minutes.

There are several wonderful walks nearby, including the Nordsjøløypen trail from Glesvær to Telavåg and the trail by Spildepollen skole. There is also plenty of open countryside right outside the door – perfect for exciting adventures for young and old. From Telavåg you can continue on to Bekhilderen and Grana, both of which offer beautiful coastal walks.
